I am a new mom of one beautiful 6 month old. I did not realize how much being a mother would change me. Having a baby has been the most rewarding and hardest thing I have ever done and I am just getting started!
I live in St. Petersburg, Florida but my family lives in Melbourne on the other side of the state. It is a three hour drive from coast to coast and that used to be no problem, till I started doing the drive with a hungry baby. I am sure every mother knows the story. You are in the car, the baby is crying and you are trying to feed her with one hand on the wheel and the other arm flipped around backwards in an unnatural position holding the bottle in your little angels mouth. Needless to say, this is dangerous and I searched for a solution.
I went to all the popular baby stores and looked online but could not find a product designed to aid in this dilemma. The closest thing I found was a product that held the bottle in a fixed position in the baby's mouth. I considered this for about a half a second before realizing that if the baby chokes or is finished eating, there is no easy way to get the bottle out of her face. So I came up with plan B. Make my own!
A safe, hands free, easy feeding system. I pulled out the sewing machine, figured out how to use it and I went to work. After a few failed attempts and a few ugly prototypes, I finally came up with the Bottle Sling. It is easy to use, fully adjustable to hold any size bottle at any height, and it is washable. It even tilts the bottle just enough so the milk stays at the nipple. I strapped the baby in, strapped the bottle on her carrier and drove across the state with both hands on the wheel!
I use it everywhere I go now. Driving, shopping, and at home while cooking. Every time I go out with it, I am repeatedly stopped and asked where I got the bottle sling. I quickly realized I had something here that the world of mothers, fathers, parents of multiples and caregivers could really benefit from!
I started selling the bottle slings on line at bottleslings.com. I kept the price very affordable because being a mom myself, I know how expensive all the baby gear is. Now if only I can figure out how to change a diaper without having to smell or touch it!
